Prince Charles urges supermarkets to face sustainability issues

 

LONDON - Prince Charles has called for grocery retailers to have a greater influence on sustainability.

Addressing the IGD conference via video link, Prince Charles said: ‘We stand at a critical juncture in encouraging consumers to act on climate change.'

He highlighted the need to produce more goods in the UK and combat the ‘destructive' use of palm oil.

Sainsbury's chief executive and IGD president Justin King said although it was a time of great economic pressure  the industry had to face up to its ‘environmental and sustainability tasks'.

King said one of the big debates in the area of sustainability would be whether to bring more manufacturing back to the UK.
