Moles may not hibernate, but we do spend as much of winter in front of the TV as the next mammal, so the arrival of Netflix to the UK caught our attention.

Netflix Hello, can I help you?

Mktg Yes. I have heard about your film service, and I am interested in finding out more details about it. Does it launch today?

Netflix Absolutely. We have launched in the UK and Ireland today.

Mktg I currently use LoveFilm. Why should I change?

Netflix Unlike LoveFilm, we stream unlimited content. LoveFilm only streams a certain amount of content. The other thing to consider is that our quality is much better. LoveFilm's quality is only to DVD standard, while ours is HD movie quality.

Mktg OK. That's interesting. One thing that has been flagged up to me is that Netflix has lost thousands of customers in the US. Should I be concerned about this?

Netflix No. Not at all. We split the price of our DVD and streaming service in the US and a lot of our older customers didn't like this. But this won't be a problem in the UK, as we are not splitting any of our prices here.

Mktg And can I access TV shows as well as films via Netflix?

Netflix Yes, you will be able to. We have signed several commercial deals and there are likely to be more to come.

Mktg So what is the cost?

Netflix £5.99 a month, but this kicks off with a month's free trial. For £5.99 you can watch films as often as you want and as many times as you want.

You can also cancel at any time, so it's very good value.

Mktg Someone said there is going to be an advertising campaign supporting Netflix. Is that the case?

Netflix Yes, there will be an ad campaign, which launches this week. It will showcase how great the product is. We are also always looking at signing new licensing deals with major brands.

We have done deals with Sony, Disney, ITV and Channel 4, but we're sure to be doing more.

Mktg Do I get discount if I sign a friend up?

Netflix Not that I know of.

The call-handler was efficient, well-informed, and quick to point to advantages Netflix claims it has over LoveFilm. She was well-versed in the history of Netflix and how its UK service will differ from its US offering.
