He can step away from the challenge and give an honest opinion. He doesn't tell me about 'what's hot' to impress me; he tells me what's going to support my strategy and, ultimately, drive sales.
The good thing is he's easy to bribe - for the promise of a couple of beers, he'll give me the inside view and let me ask all the questions that I wouldn't dare put to our agencies. I know he has no game plan or ulterior motive. He's not trying to win my business or influence me, he just helps me to see the wood from the trees.
