Brand Manager of the Week: Colleen Williams

Founder, Ad-lib Traveller

Describe yourself in three words.

Creative, adaptable, ambitious.

What would you be if you weren't a brand manager?

An all-round marketer for a global travel brand.

What attracted you to your current job?

As a chartered marketer and an ardent traveller, I was keen to create a platform that allowed me to fuse both interests. This has allowed me to develop a brand and engage with a niche, passionate audience. The Ad-lib Traveller remains a work in progress, but it grows each day.

What was your first job?

Working part-time for a regional radio station as a researcher and member of the promotional team.

What was your finest hour?

Using my marketing background to launch my blog. Seeing its presence grow has been uplifting.

What is your greatest ambition?

To raise a strong family and share my passion for travel by helping my children explore the world.

If you were a brand, what would you be and why?

McDonald's. Whether the publicity is good or bad, it remains a strong brand. The 'golden arches' are recognised worldwide and I love that they alter their menu in different parts of the world.

What is your favourite marketing campaign?

Coca-Cola's 'Holidays are coming'. The TV ad and jingle have become so indicative of Christmas.

What is your all-time favourite slogan?

Nike's 'Just do it'.

What are your hobbies?

Travelling, netball, attending gigs, baking.

If you weren't you, who would you be?

Beyonce - she's talented, beautiful and at the top of her profession.

What makes you angry?

Bad manners, ignorance and a lack of consideration.

What is your favourite pub?

Wetherspoon's - reasonable prices, decent food and tends to be a mixed crowd.

What's your favourite holiday destination?

Thailand - it offers the city as well as fantastic beaches.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

Health, love and happiness.
