Royal Caribbean, the Norwegian and American cruise line, is bolstering its team with a series of new hires, as ramps up its digital marketing activity.

Royal Caribbean has a marketing team of around 20 in the UK and a key target is to expand the number of digital marketers it has in 2013.

The cruise line is thought to just have one or two dedicated digital marketers at the moment and is looking hire up to five.

Royal Caribbean in particular is looking to build up its strengths in web development, search engine optimisation and on social media.

Jo Briody, head of marketing UK & Ireland, will play a crucial role in the recruitment drive, which is expected to be kick-started in the coming months.

The drive follows RCL Cruises, the owner of Royal Caribbean brand, appointing Omnicom's OMD UK to handle its social media and SEO business.

The move to enhance its digital offering comes as Royal Caribbean launches a £2.5m marketing campaign to attract a younger demographic.

The 'Sea is Calling. Answer it with Royal Caribbean' campaign is running across TV, press, cinema and social media.

The campaign has been created by JWT.
