Web search engine Excite is to include a more localised search
facility for UK users, featuring business and entertainment listings. It
has linked up with Scoot (formerly Freepages) to provide a ”comprehensive
and easy-to-use” service which has been branded as ’Excite Scoot’.
Launched at the end of November, it will draw on over two million records,
divided into 2,300 key words and covering more than 20,000 locations
across the UK. It will allow internet users to find, for example, local
Chinese takeaways, late-night chemists and emergency plumbers. There will
be advertising opportunities and the company claims online transaction
technology will be incorporated in the ”near future”.
