Vimto is using the humour of Purple Ronnie to launch a variant of
its berry juice drink, Vimto Citrus. In a slapstick television execution
created by Cheetham Bell JWT, Purple Ronnie's best friend Nev struggles
to try the drink. His attempts are foiled as he is crushed under a pile
of falling citrus fruit, then his deckchair collapses spilling the drink
over him. The television ad spots are part of a £3.5m marketing
campaign that is airing in the north of England, supported by bus sides
and rears for Original Vimto. The company is also looking to promote the
brand further south with a mix of ten- and 30-second Original Vimto
advertisements using gags from last year's Purple Ronnie 'Black and Red'
