Centrica hunts chief for cross-selling brief

LONDON - Centrica is looking for a new group customer intelligence director, with a brief to analyse its huge database and identify customers who are likely to buy from other businesses within the group.

The new recruit, who will report to chief operating officer Mike Alexander, will take over from Liz Hanson, who moved to the company's "centre of excellence" in January.

Hanson has taken on the new role of director of sales and marketing at the centre, which identifies best practice in product development and marketing inside and outside the group.

She took over from Nigel Grimes, who became customer strategy director for British Gas.

Centrica's main businesses are British Gas, Goldfish, the AA, and its telecoms arm, which runs British Gas Communications and One.Tel.

According to latest published figures for 2001, British Gas had 13.4m customers, down from 14m the previous year, representing 67% of the market.

The AA's membership increased from 10.9m to 12m amounting to 48% of the UK's roadside assistance market. Centrica's telecoms division has more than 1m customers.
