Philip Morris seeks top marketer in restructure

Philip Morris International (PMI) is looking to fill a beefed-up top European marketing role after promoting Paolo Digola to run the global tobacco giant's Japanese operation.

Digola was general manager for markets including the UK, France and Spain. He held overall responsibility for the marketing of PMI's international portfolio of brands, which include Marlboro and Benson & Hedges.

As the result of a restructure aimed at helping the company manage its international marketing more effectively, the recruit is also likely to have responsibilities outside of Europe. They will be based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

PMI has reduced its marketing team in the UK since the company's court victory last August that saw it switch the UK distribution rights for Marlboro and Marlboro Lights from British American Tobacco to Imperial Tobacco.
