Penhaligon's currently has ten shops across the UK, one in New York and one in Hong Kong. It has concessions in Harrods, Selfridges and at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. S&J's appointment, after a competitive pitch handled through the AAR, comes at a time when the company is looking at opening more stores in Europe, the US and Asia Pacific and creating further concessions.
The agency appointment follows the hiring in August of Clive Smith-Langridge as the brand's first-ever marketing director. His responsibilities were previously handled by public relations manager Suzy Payne. Smith-Langridge, who joined from BAT, oversees all marketing communications for the company, looking at creating a more contemporary brand.
Penhaligon's is 130 years old. It was founded in the 1860s by Cornish barber William Henry Penhaligon in London and by the 1870s had created a perfume business that supplied the aristocracy.
