In financial results for the 26 weeks to 28 September, the mobile phone retailer posted online sales of £19.7m, compared with £15.6m in the equivalent period of last year.
Its wireless internet portal, mviva, has been downscaled, restructured and integrated into the firm's distribution division. At the end of August, The Carphone Warehouse acquired the remaining 15 per cent stake in mviva from ISP and portal AOL Europe for 3.3 million shares.
But the firm still feels it is well placed to take advantage of imaging, multimedia messaging, Java games and colour screens for growth. It is also positive about new market entrants providing 3G services, but doesn't expect this to have any material impact in the near future.
In a separate move, The Carphone Warehouse Group has acquired fixed-line telecoms network provider Opal Telecom for an initial sum of £65m.
