Cheryl Baker, star of 80s pop group Bucks Fizz, gets mistaken for cherry bakewells in Mr Kipling's TV ad campaign for Comic Relief, breaking on February 24. The ten-second execution shows Mr Kipling make the error of producing six Cheryl Bakers after mishearing the request from the Comic Relief production manager for six cherry bakewells. Six differently dressed Cheryls appear, wearing outfits from the band's heyday. The ad ends with Mr Kipling forgiven, as it is all for an 'exceedingly good cause'. Creative is by Saatchi & Saatchi and media is through BBJ. This is the third year that the Manor Bakeries-owned brand has supported Comic Relief as an official sponsor. It hopes to raise £250,000 this year for the event.
