DIRECT: Big Issue charity looks to develop fundraising base

The Big Issue Foundation, the charitable arm of the Big Issue, is working on a direct marketing strategy that will allow the wide-scale targeting of prospective individual donors for the first time.

The organisation hopes to broaden its fundraising base by targeting individuals, focusing on appeals, reactivation and the recruitment of supporters.

The majority of its fundraising income currently derives from government trusts and corporate donations.

Direct marketing agency TDA has been appointed to oversee the strategy, which coincides with the arrival of Annie Turner as The Big Issue Foundation's chief executive.

The charity offers housing and resettlement services, as well as mental health, drug and alcohol advice.
