Goldfish director nets Centrica job as post is axed

Centrica is to drop the marketing director position for its Goldfish financial services brand and given the incumbent, Charlie Herbert, a group-wide brief that includes increasing marketing effectiveness across its portfolio.

Herbert is moving to a role at the Centrica Centre of Excellence, where he will take charge of its sales and marketing work, in co-operation with the marketing directors of British Gas, One.Tel and the Automobile Association.

Replacing Liz Kenrick, who is on maternity leave, Herbert will look at all areas of group marketing strategy, including pricing, channel strategy and marketing effectiveness.

Centrica has decided the Goldfish brand does not need a marketing chief and will not replace Herbert, who had been in the job for 18 months.

Centrica group marketing director Simon Waugh, who is also deputy managing director of British Gas, has taken on additional responsibilities following the departure of the group's chief operating officer, Mike Alexander, to head British Energy.

Waugh will now oversee the Customer Intelligence Unit, Customer Relationship Management division and the Centre of Excellence in addition to his existing remit.
