Opzoomer will leave the portal at the end of this year, but it is unclear whether he has a job to go to. It is thought that he may be involved in launching a company, but Yahoo! would not confirm this.
John Marcom, senior vice-president of international operations, will fill Opzoomer's position in the short-term. However, Yahoo! is in the process of appointing headhunters and will consider both internal and external candidates.
Opzoomer joined Yahoo! Europe in 2001 to boost both advertising and subscription revenues in its eight local territories, which include the UK & Ireland, Germany and Spain.
He has been credited for securing the deal with BT this spring, which saw Yahoo! secure a foothold in the subscriptions business with the launch of BT Yahoo!, the dial-up and broadband internet access service that has replaced BTopenworld.
