Salaries for food, drink and tobacco marketers rise steadily according to seniority, unlike other sectors, which show a steep jump at marketing director level. In financial services, the average salary leaps from £50,000 at marketing manager level to £110, 000 at marketing director level.

Food, drink and tobacco marketers at director level are well-paid compared with other sectors, overtaken only by retail and financial services marketers and those in brick, china and glass manufacturing. Senior product managers in the food, drink and tobacco sectors are paid slightly more (£980) than those in non-profit organisations.

Further down the scale, product managers are paid about the same from sector to sector.
