Careers: Just the job - Head of sponsorship, BT

BT head of sponsorship Paul Leonard admits that many people think of the brand as 'that dull old telephone utility company'. But BT's tie-up with art gallery website Tate Online has offered him a way to change perceptions.

Art is the new rock 'n' roll, with larger-than-life characters such as Tracey Emin taking centre stage, says Leonard. He hopes that tapping into this cool will see some of it rub off on BT.

Technology and art are becoming inextricably linked and Leonard is responsible for combining the two to reach a younger audience. An online quiz game for Tate Britain's 'Art & the 60s' exhibition is the latest example.

Leonard also organises events and dinners held at the gallery, which cause a stir among opinion-formers from the press to celebrities.
