The survey found that consumers were most disappointed by gifts including a pork pie and a CD with 14 versions of The Village People song YMCA.
The National Incentive Survey, based on the responses of 500 people, is conducted to establish how incentives influence buying habits.
It revealed that 81% of respondents expressed concerns about food and alcohol promotions that encouraged them to eat and drink more. However, loyalty schemes are popular: 89% hold at least one card.
The schemes from which users claim the most rewards are Nectar, Tesco Clubcard and Boots Advantage.
