Heinz prepares low-carb debut

Heinz is planning to enter the low-carb food market with a range of products under the name Carb Check.

The food giant is considering applying the umbrella name to low-carb versions of some of its flagship products, such as Baked Beanz, Ketchup, Salad Cream and its ready meals.

Heinz has registered the Carb Check brand for use in the UK, although a Heinz spokeswoman declined to say how it would be used.

The initiative follows Heinz's launch of One Carb Ketchup - a low-carb version of the original product - in the US last year, which was created in response to growing demand for low-carb products.
