Tony Dwerryhouse, marketing director of John West, has retired after 23

years with parent company Unilever. There are no plans to replace him

and it is thought that Unilever is still keen to sell the company.



A Sainsbury’s ad campaign accusing Tesco of ’foul play’ over its

pricing, has run into trouble with local newspapers, which have refused

to run the ad. The Wolverhampton Express & Star and The Western Mail

have deemed the ads to be too provocative.



The Observer has drawn up a shortlist for its pounds 1m ad account. The

list includes the incumbent St Luke’s, BMP DDB, WCRS, Ogilvy & Mather

and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.



AT&T is to merge its UK and European business divisions in a move

expected to create 250 sales and marketing jobs, many of which will be

based in London.



British Gas Trading has appointed Roy Gayton as its interim marketing

director. Gayton previously worked as a consultant with companies

including NatWest and Scholl.



Asda’s head of grocery marketing Joe Blundell is to join advertising and

product sampling agency Fast Marketing as general manager.



Guinness is to create 15 new marketing jobs in its off-trade division in

a restructure designed to put customer service at the core of its

take-home trade.



The Independent Television Commission has rejected 82 complaints from

viewers about the number of ads run during ITV’s coverage of the Formula

1 racing.



Court Burkitt & Company has won the pounds 3m ad account for Video

Collection International, the company that releases videos such as

Riverdance and Les Miserables.



Haymarket Magazines has entered a partnership with German publishers

Motor-Presse Stuttgart which will see Motor-Presse’s monthly title

Complete Car incorporated into Haymarket’s weekly title Autocar from

July 2.



Former deputy prime minister Michael Heseltine has re-joined the board

of the Haymarket Group, publisher of Marketing. Heseltine founded the

group in 1957 and he took up the role of non-executive director last

week.



Carlton Film Distributors has shortlisted CIA Medianetwork, New PHD,

Optimedia, Target Media, TMD Carat and Zenith Media for its pounds 2.5m

media-buying account.
