for all its grocery products sold in the UK.



Marks & Spencer is to open a further 20 neighbourhood stores as part of

its pounds 2.1 billion global expansion plans. Yesterday (Tuesday) the

retailer reported pre-tax profits of pounds 452.3m in the half-year to

September 27.



Barclaycard is to allow its customers to pay their bills via the

Internet for the first time through Barclaycard Netlink, which uses a

security system on licence from the US government.



Lloyds TSB has appointed Debbie Gorski as marketing director for its

Life, Pensions and Unit Trusts businesses. Gorski was previously

marketing director for Black Horse Financial Services.



Ann Harris, new business director at HHCL & Partners, is leaving the

agency to join Publicis as marketing director. Her appointment comes

only eight weeks after Publicis brought in Richard Hytner, a former

director of the Henley Centre, as chief executive.



Carlsberg-Tetley has parted company with trade marketing director

Richard Ellis. Ellis is believed to have taken up a job at rival brewer

Whitbread.



The BBC is understood to have appointed Anthea Turner to present the

National Lottery scratchcard gameshow TV Dreams, which is due to launch

in the New Year.



Top Rank, the UK’s largest bingo operator, is to change its name to

Mecca Bingo after long-term research indicated that Mecca had high

levels of customer recognition and approval.



The Independent is to give away free newspapers in selected areas of

London over the next two weeks. The newspaper declined to comment on the

size of the sampling exercise but said free copies would be included in

its ABC figures.



MasterCard International and its European equivalent, Europay, have

launched a combined commercial division to market the Maestro debit

brand across Europe. The operation will be headed by Europay’s general

manager of commercial affairs, Francis van den Bosch.



Disney Consumer Products has appointed Momentum to handle

through-the-line work for the UK.



BDDP Europe has appointed Mike Amour as its new managing director.

Amour, who previously worked at Wieden & Kennedy, will be responsible

for overseeing operations and driving business development.
