Any parallels between PR Week’s awards and the classic PR awards
episode of Absolutely Fabulous, ending with our drunken heroines
floating down the Thames in a barge, are all in the mind.
The proof of this is that last week’s incident, in which a dredger
crashed into the Thames Barrier, actually happened before the PR
industry’s annual big bash at Grosvenor House.
For the record, Andy Wood - for ten years director of information in the
Northern Office in Belfast - was chosen as PR professional of the year.
He has already been made a CBE for the way in which he has handled such
a delicate role.
The irony is that, following what have been called differences over
’personal chemistry and style’ with the new Northern Ireland Secretary,
Mo Mowlam, he is currently on ’gardening leave’.
Hill & Knowlton was named agency of the year. Sundial Communications, a
breakaway from Lowe Bell Communications, got the gong for best new
consultancy, with the title of best small consultancy going to
Bristol-based Amanda Barry Communications.
