MARKETING MIX: Cracker of a Christmas for Goffen

The Christmas period proved to be as frantic as ever. There were plenty of turkeys (see loon of the week) and a couple of stuffings, namely Spurs and Man Utd. Midlands duo Aston Villa and Coventry supplied the surprises, proving it’s better to give than to receive.

The Christmas period proved to be as frantic as ever. There were

plenty of turkeys (see loon of the week) and a couple of stuffings,

namely Spurs and Man Utd. Midlands duo Aston Villa and Coventry supplied

the surprises, proving it’s better to give than to receive.

The proud recipients of our roll-over Football Crazy polo shirts are

freelance writer Simon Goffen, who amassed an unstoppable 82 points, and

John Revill of Oral-B, who was runner-up with 70 points.

Simon can raise a glass to Steve McManaman, who scored and provided two

goals, and his Liverpool counterpart, Michael Owen. Darren Huckerby

deserves a mention for his Christmas cracker against Man Utd, which

exonerated some earlier wayward play.

Loon/turkey of the week goes to Leicester’s Steve Walsh for his

fantastic lob at Arsenal. Unfortunately, it was past his stranded

keeper, Kasey Keller. Big Duncan Ferguson gets our player of the week

award for his hat trick against struggling Bolton.

With the advent of the FA Cup, we added the match involving Southampton

and Chelsea on December 29 to the scoring to complete the Christmas

calendar.

Once again, Brendan McElroy of Boots has pipped Martin Drewe of Pitman

Publishing in the race for the overall title. Mark Golledge of Team

Marketing Communications has them in his sights.

This week’s player scores are on page 42. You can also visit the

Marketing Web site at www.marketing.haynet.com for up-to-date scores and

mini-league results.
