Manchester-based Barrington Johnson Lorains is setting up a new direct

arm, BJL Direct. Sandie Burtinshaw, former head of direct marketing at

Quadrant Advertising and Marketing, will be heading up the division. The

agency’s clients include Karrimor, North West Radio and Granada Studio

Tours.



Changing Sears



Sears has appointed database marketing company Dunn Humby Associates to

develop ways to identify the key groups within its eight million UK

customers. The appointment is part of Sears’s introduction, over the

next two years, of customer-relationship management programmes to

support key brands including Selfridges, Richards, Wallis, Adams, Shoe

Express and Shoe City.



Matter of Pride



The Pride Trust, organisers of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and

Transgender Pride 1996 march and festival, has hired London-based PR

agency Jane Howard, following a four-way pitch.



Winning post



The Royal Mail’s below-the-line agency review has finally reached

completion, with the appointment of agencies to handle marketing public

relations, sales promotion and fulfilment. The consumer PR account goes

to the Quentin Bell Organisation, while The Reputation Manager is the

business-to-business winner. IMP and Yellow Submarine pick up the sales-

promotion business while Acxiom and MBO-RCF Marketing are appointed as

the fulfilment agencies.



Wet look



Recently merged water suppliers Sutton District Water and East Surrey

Water, now forming Sutton and East Surrey Waters has a new corporate

identity courtesy of Lloyd Northover Citigate. The new look will be

rolled out over the next few months.



Getaway giveaway



From April 6, high-street travel retailer Thomas Cook will be giving

away pounds 100 holiday spending money with every summer 1996 booking.

The offer applies to all package holidays departing between May 1 and

September 31. The promotion runs until April 15.



Fitting in



Fitness equipment manufacturer Healthrider has appointed Cheshire-based

agency Greenwood Tighe Public Relations to handle its UK consumer PR.

The agency will be developing a comprehensive consumer media relations

and promotional campaign. GTPR will be supported by Biss Lancaster in

London.



Health benefits



Marketing services company Keene Communication has announced the

formation of a new medical communications division. It is also to join

Healthcare Network, an independent network of marketing and management

consultancies specialising in healthcare.
