BMG Interactive is trading off the controversy surrounding its Grand Theft Auto game with a provocative radio and press campaign. The game, criticised for its violent content, was threatened with a ban following a debate in the House of Lords earlier this year. It has since been passed by the British Board of Film Classification and is expected to be a top-selling Christmas game. The pounds 500,000 campaign, through Tonic, includes a radio ad featuring a live debate in the House of Lords. The radio campaign breaks next week. Media buying is through Matters Media. Press ads will run in computer and lifestyle titles until January.
