Banks never seem to learn

Once again it seems a clearing bank has put the advertising cart before the customer service horse. For Barclays to be a leader in introducing PC banking is heartening, though surprising.

Once again it seems a clearing bank has put the advertising cart

before the customer service horse. For Barclays to be a leader in

introducing PC banking is heartening, though surprising.



But how depressing if the bank really can’t keep pace with the number of

people wanting to sign up. It seems pent-up demand wasn’t appreciated,

but it’s hard to blame the bank for that - there’s been a healthy

scepticism about the ’PC revolution’ for some years now, and to hear

some pundits talk you’d think the whole wired world idea was a huge

con.



What’s depressing for banks is that the rush of applications is a pretty

good indication of how terrible branch banking is for most people.

They’ll do anything - even learn how to use their PCs - to avoid the

hideous experience of visiting what should be the high street showcases

of retail banking.
