Notorious Viz cartoon characters, The Fat Slags, have been signed
up as the figureheads for a campaign to promote a low-calorie version of
The characters will appear in the new television campaign for the
SmithKline Beecham product which goes on air on June 20.
The campaign, through Ogilvy & Mather, will run for four weeks and will
use the two Viz characters, Tracey and Sandra.
The ads use a mix of animation and live action to illustrate how the
low-calorie version does not fit in with the girls’ chip-guzzling
They even order one male conquest to, ’Get it out of our fridge’, when
he buys the low-calorie version of the drink.
SmithKline Beecham is targeting 20- to 35-year-old women, and men of 28
years and above.
The campaign is in contrast with the current Lucozade ad, which stars
footballer Alan Shearer.
The new low-calorie Lucozade comes in three different flavours: Orange,
Lemon & Grapefruit and Passion Fruit & Mango, all with added vitamins.
