If you find a pair of musical socks in your Christmas stocking, blame
Don Hockman. He, too, is likely to be behind your musical Christmas card
and that funny mug you’ll get from your kids that ‘moos’ every time you
pick it up.
Hockman, managing director of Sound Tactics, has done most things to
persuade people to take notice of direct mail by creating mailshots
which talk to you. He was unprepared, however, for the mailshot from
Mega Memory which hit his desk last month.
‘Having just left my wallet behind and mislaid my car keys again, I was
persuaded by the 30-days free trial of something offering me ‘memory
powers beyond my wildest dreams within three days’. When the 17 tapes
arrived, I was so enthusiastic to begin the course that I disregarded
the instructions not to play the tapes while driving.
‘On my return to the office, my secretary asked if I had collected the
travellers’ cheques from the bank. I had been so engrossed in the tapes
that I had forgotten. I am now on the section about word association and
have decided to purchase the course. If nothing else, I have dined out
on the experience to the great amusement of my friends and, of course, I
will always remember - 1 is Tree, 2 is Switch, 3 is Stool...’
