The launch, into 173 Waitrose stores, is part of a wider expansion drive into territories including Mexico, Japan, France, Russia and Germany.
'The UK market represents a great opportunity,' said Ferrarelle chief executive Carlo Pontecorvo. 'Sparkling water is still in growth and we think it has a lot of potential.'
The water will be distributed by Euro Food Brands, which will target 'comfortable entertainers' - upmarket over-30s who buy quality products and like the finer things in life.
The brand will support the roll-out with a marketing drive next year. The activity is likely to focus on the arts and culture.
Market leader Ferrarelle had a market share of 16.3% in Italy in 2005, according to Euromonitor International.
