Airtours is to scrap the position of group sales and marketing director
after George Marcall resigned to become managing director of the retail
division at Yates Brothers’ Wine Lodges.
Marcall is to leave Airtours on December 23 after ten years with the
group. He joined as marketing director designate and has seen the firm
expand from a privately-owned tour operator to a public company that
owns an airline and the travel agency Going Places.
However, the past five years have seen the role marginalised with the
introduction of marketing directors for each division.
‘Over the past few years I have been looking at development
opportunities, such as last week’s move into the timeshare market,’ said
Marcall. ‘However, because of the size of the company and the fact there
are now marketing directors in each of the operational divisions, the
company is not planning to replace me.’
Marcall has been a non-executive director at Yates Brothers since 1995.
