In Scotland, the only market where The Observer outsells The Sunday
Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph is trying to reverse the trend by
slashing its price by 55p to 25p.
The price cut is indefinite according to a source from The Telegraph
A heavyweight television and radio advertising campaign will support the
promotion, using the copyline ‘Britain’s fastest growing Sunday
newspaper, now at only 25p’
A representative from The Telegraph Group said: ‘This is the first
offensive. We have gone on the front foot in the price war, and the
paper it will hit most is The Sunday Times.’
The Scottish Sunday newspaper war broke out in June when Scotland on
Sunday announced that it was to cut its price from 75p to 50p and hold
it for one year. The Sunday Times followed, cutting its price from
pounds 1 to 50p.
