New CEO for JWT

New CEO for JWT



J Walter Thompson Worldwide has appointed Chris Jones as CEO of the

agency’s worldwide board of directors. Jones, who takes up his new role

in January, succeeds Burt Manning, who remains chairman of the worldwide

company.



Judging under way



Judging has taken place for this year’s DMA/Royal Mail Direct Marketing

Awards. Nominations include Craik Jones for Land Rover and Ogilvy &

Mather Direct for BT and the DSS pensions campaign. Winners will be

announced at the awards ceremony on December 9 at the Grosvenor Hotel in

London.



Battle of the bands



Bass Taverns has appointed KLP London to set up a nationwide ‘battle of

the bands’ to promote long-term custom of local pubs. More than 250 Bass

Taverns will take part and the winner will be showcased in 1997.



BA chooses Grey



British Airways Travel Clinics has appointed Grey Integrated to handle

through-the-line advertising. Media buying remains with Optimedia. The

appointment follows a pitch open to all BA roster agencies.



It’s in the bag



Reaction UK, the targeting specialist, has added to its sampling

product, The Student Welcome Pack, with the acquisition of rival

products, College Bag and Ruck Sac.



In memory



The Incorporated Society of British Advertisers and The Marketing

Society have launched the Donald McLure Memorial Award to the Young

Marketer of the Year. McLure, who died in December 1995, was a former

ISBA president.



Barclaycard responds



Barclaycard has appointed BMP DDB and Clark McKay Buckingham to handle a

multi-million pound direct response project next year. The account

covers brand strategy and media planning and buying.



Swap shop



Jennifer Laing, chairwoman of Saatchi & Saatchi London, and Alan Bishop,

chief executive officer, North America, are carrying out a job swap,

with each relocating to take up the other’s job.



HMV joins pub chain



Scottish & Newcastle Retail is running a promotion in over 200 pubs,

created by Teamwork Marketing. The promotion is a joint venture with HMV

and offers savings and a prize draw for the retailer.



CMB gets new head



Clark McKay Buckingham has hired Steve Walpole as its creative head. He

was previously executive creative director of GGT Direct Advertising.



Beer and football



Dutch beer Amstel has renewed its sponsorship in the UEFA Champions

League for a further three years.
