New CEO for JWT
J Walter Thompson Worldwide has appointed Chris Jones as CEO of the
agency’s worldwide board of directors. Jones, who takes up his new role
in January, succeeds Burt Manning, who remains chairman of the worldwide

Judging has taken place for this year’s DMA/Royal Mail Direct Marketing
Awards. Nominations include Craik Jones for Land Rover and Ogilvy &

Battle of the bands
Bass Taverns has appointed KLP London to set up a nationwide ‘battle of
the bands’ to promote long-term custom of local pubs. More than 250 Bass
Taverns will take part and the winner will be showcased in 1997.
BA chooses Grey
British Airways Travel Clinics has appointed Grey Integrated to handle
through-the-line advertising. Media buying remains with Optimedia. The
appointment follows a pitch open to all BA roster agencies.
It’s in the bag

Dutch beer Amstel has renewed its sponsorship in the UEFA Champions
League for a further three years.
