Mirror Group is entering into an alliance with internet service
provider Zip2 to upgrade its web sites and build online revenue
Zip2 will take over management of Mirror Group’s national web site,
www.mirror.co.uk, and local online services. The deal will allow Mirror
Group to provide local online services, such as community guides,
e-commerce and house and car sales.
The new technology, which personalises site content to the interests of
each user, will launch on Mirror Group sites in Scotland and the West
Midlands. Initially, the sites of the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday
Mail, Birmingham Post and Coventry Evening Telegraph will be upgraded
and run by Zip2.
It is hoped that by offering more targeted content, online revenue from
local businesses will increase.
John Allwood, Mirror chief executive, said: ’This will ensure that we
not only stay ahead of our traditional competitors, but also establish a
market leadership over the new generation of digital competitors, before
they gain a foothold in local UK markets.’
