ADVERTISING: BRIEFS

Families valued

Families valued

Visa is following Oxo’s example with the creation of the Visa Family:

mum, dad, two kids and a dog. They will star in a new series of TV

commercials under the strapline ‘Visa - making life easier’. The

campaign is through Saatchi & Saatchi.

Team effort

A workaday pub football team was chosen to star in a new Carlsberg TV ad

screened during Aston Villa’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United for the

Coca-Cola Cup last weekend. The ad was part of Carlsberg’s Euro 96

support and was created by K Advertising.

Agencies shortlisted

The Interflora advertising agency review is now down to a shortlist of

five. Incumbents D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles will compete against BMP

DDB, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Ammirati & Puris Lintas, and The Leith

Agency.

IT and miss

Computer industry advertising has been slammed in the latest report by

IT services specialists PCMC. Its study of 30 ad campaigns concluded

that IT ads were ill-conceived, badly targeted and carried the wrong

messages.

Sporting chance

Sportswear label Ellesse UK is to launch a new spring/summer press

campaign next month aimed at 18- to 30-year-olds.

McCann-Erickson Manchester created the ads.

Kids’ stuff

TCC, the children’s satellite and cable channel, is launching a pounds

500,000 spring promotional campaign this week including a radio

campaign. Curtis Hoy devised and implemented the campaign.

Pricing rap

The Monopolies and Mergers Commission has recommended that pricing

controls be placed on classified advertising rates in BT’s Yellow Pages,

saying that the business was exploiting its monopoly position.

Age bias scotched

Whyte & MacKay claims its Collett Dickenson Pearce-designed ad campaign

for its whisky brand has given it 19.9% share of voice and increased its

appeal with young people. Just 7% of 20- to 30-year-olds questioned

thought the brand was only for older drinkers.

JWT on the Web

J. Walter Thompson has jumped on the information superhighway with a

corporate site on the World Wide Web under the theme ‘It’s a World’,

showcasing the agency’s international resources.

Wired celebrates

Technology magazine Wired will mark its first UK anniversary with a

pounds 100,000 television, radio, poster and postcard campaign under the

theme ‘What you need to know about the digital revolution’.

Fridge teaser

American football team the London Monarchs start a press campaign this

week featuring new recruit William ‘The Fridge’ Perry. Ads were created

by McCann-Erickson Manchester.
