National Savings has appointed direct marketing agency Evans Hunt
Scott to work alongside the brand’s current DM agency GGT Direct.
Amazon.com, the US-based Internet bookstore, has made its first
significant move into the UK market with a number of acquisitions
including Bookpagers, the UK Internet bookstore, and Internet Movie
Database. It has made further acquisitions in Europe for a total of
dollars 55m (pounds 33.9m).
Edinburgh-based agency Faulds has restructured into five separate
companies, following research carried out among clients. The new
companies are: Classic Faulds (advertising), Total Faulds (integrated),
Fast Faulds (retail clients), Media Faulds and Future Faulds (new
media). Jim Faulds, who was managing director, now becomes chairman.
Talking Pages has shortlisted five agencies for its pounds 3.5m
advertising account: Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Partners BDDH, Court
Burkitt & Company, Leagas Delaney, and one other.
Tesco Personal Finance has launched Tesco Home Insurance this week in
588 stores. It is the fourth financial product to be added to Tesco’s
Personal Finance portfolio, which comprises Instant Access Savings,
Clubcard Plus and Tesco Visa. Sainsbury’s launched its home insurance
products ten days ago.
Thomas Cook has restructured its travel and financial businesses into
four business units: Worldwide Tour Operations, Worldwide Financial
Services, Direct Businesses and International Travel, and UK Retail.
Thomas Cook has yet to appoint a marketing director for its retail
division, who will report to Andrew Windsor, director of UK Retail.
Israel Tourist Board is talking to four agencies about its pounds 1m
advertising account. The incumbent is Court Burkitt & Company.
Des Lynam is to star in a new pounds 1.5m TV campaign for soluble plant
food Miracle-Gro. The ad, created by Delaney Fletcher Bozell, breaks on
May 1 with the strapline ’Miracle-Gro, the name says it all’.
BBC Clothes Show Live, the fashion and beauty consumer exhibition
organised by Barker Brown on behalf of BBC Haymarket Exhibitions, is to
run in association with The British Heart Foundation. The joint venture
aims to raise the charity’s profile among younger people.
Tony Illsley, president of Walkers Snack Foods, will be guest speaker at
The Chartered Insititute of Marketing’s Annual Lecture on May 12. While
Dr Hasselkus, chairman and chief executive of Rover Group, will be
speaker at The Marketing Society Annual Lecture and Dinner on May 20.
