The Burton Group has appointed Sandee Springer, buying and merchandising director at Debenhams, to the new role of marketing services director for the five retail chains that make up the group. She will be responsible for the Top Man, Top Shop, Burton Menswear, Principles, Evans and Dorothy Perkins chains.

Ford is believed to have abandoned plans to launch its Lincoln executive

car in the UK. The brand was to have been used to boost the company’s

presence in the luxury car market.



Vernons, the Pools operator, has struck a marketing deal with Premier

and First Division football clubs, which will see pools coupons and

special offers sent out to supporters with tickets and fixture

information. The company has already signed deals with Leicester City,

West Ham, Port Vale and Norwich City.



Canadian Airlines is talking to agencies about a through-the-line

campaign this autumn. The airline, which last year spent pounds 216,000

on advertising, currently uses Griffin Bacal, who will not be

repitching.



South West Trains is talking to contract publishing agencies about its

customer magazine Outlook, and to design agencies about developing

transport advertising.



Direct marketing agency Colleagues Group has agreed to a pounds 21.6m

takeover by the Moore Corporation, a Canadian company specialising in

printed customer communications.



Chrysalis Radio is to restructure its sales and marketing operations.

Don Thomson, group sales director, becomes commercial director and

marketing manager Miriam Nevill becomes group marketing controller.



Coca-Cola has launched a print advertising campaign to support the

introduction of its new 330ml contoured glass bottle. The campaign uses

silhouettes of the bottle and quotes about it from various style

experts.



Co-operative Bank has linked up with the National Disability Council to

launch a national cinema campaign, through BDDH, calling for a more

visible role for disabled people in TV and advertising productions.



Whitbread has appointed Holder Wilson Pearce & Bailey to handle

advertising for its Travel Inn Hotels following a pitch against

McCann-Erickson and the incumbent Grey Advertising. Media will be

handled by Frontline.



Entries are now being taken for this year’s Marketing Design Awards. Any

work from January 1 1996 to July 31 1997 is eligible. The closing date
