Imagination’s marketing director Ralph Ardill joined the company after a

varied career with Sampson Tyrrell, CBS Records, and Laura Ashley. With

Imagination’s founder Gary Withers, he led the company’s successful bid

for the Millennium Exhibition contract.



Bruce Beresford, of Beresfords Design, started in the design business in

the late 70s, and has worked in Chicago, Tokyo and the Middle East, as

well as London. He has been the senior creative consultant for major

corporate identity and brand development projects.



Communication director for the Design Council since 1995, Paul Crake has

worked mainly in the public sector. Among claims to fame, he introduced

a corporate identity for Stirling District Council which provoked death

threats from Scottish nationalists, but is now featured in text books.



With a background in the creative departments of ad agencies, Derek Dear

has held a number of posts with British Airways, from art director to

the advertising co-ordinator for Europe. Now general manager, marketing

communications, he is an ISBA council member.



Richard Gibb is a chemistry graduate who spent 16 years in marketing at

Rowntree Mackintosh before joining Scottish & Newcastle in 1988.

Appointed to the board as marketing director in 1993, he has been

corporate affairs director for the past year.



Fiona Gilmore is managing director and founding partner of Springpoint,

a brand and corporate ID design consultancy. She joined the design

industry 12 years ago, after spending seven years in advertising, and

has become a regular speaker at international forums.



Well-known advertising figure John Hegarty was in at the start of,

successively: Cramer & Saatchi, TBWA, and Bartle Bogle Hegarty, where he

is chairman and creative director. In 1994, he received the D&AD

President’s Award for outstanding achievement in the advertising

industry.



Jim Hytner was a graduate trainee at General Foods, later moving to

Coca-Cola Great Britain where he rose to be senior brand manager on the

flagship product. After a brief spell at Sega, he moved to BSkyB, where

he was recently promoted to marketing director.



Trained originally as an electrical engineer, Craig McCulloch moved into

marketing communications - initially with Arthur Pike Communications,

and later Scott Stern London, and the Independent Communication Group.

He is now managing director at MCA Group.



Christine Restall trained as a market researcher before moving into

advertising. In 18 years at McCann-Erickson, she rose to become

executive planning director. She joined The Research Business

International in 1989, and was appointed chairperson in 1994.



David Robinson has spent 16 years in the communications industry,

particularly electronic media. For five years he was marketing head for

Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service, moving to Lambie-Nairn a year

ago to help service international clients on TV marketing issues.



After a varied career on both the agency and the client side - including

General Foods, Unilever and St. Ivel - Nick Stokes joined Boots in 1979.

He is now head of marketing services with a staff of 75, and

responsibilities ranging from in-house design to market research.



Richard Watson founded EDR (formerly known as the European Design

Register) in 1992, to advise clients on the selection and management of

design consultancies. He had previously worked with packaging design

specialist Lewis Moberly, and before that in advertising.
