Abbey National has awarded the pounds 10m advertising account for
its forthcoming internet bank, codenamed Aquarius, to Euro RSCG Wnek
Strategic planning has been handed to Carat, which pitched with Euro
against combined creative and media agency teams from Duckworth Finn
Grubb Waters/Unity and Circus/Bridgeworks. Carat will also handle media
Euro, which handles the bulk of Abbey’s UK advertising, will help to
launch the bank in spring next year as a major rival to Prudential’s
Egg, one of the marketing successes of this year.
The bank will operate as a separate unit within the Abbey National group
and will initially launch an online savings account, with other
services, including loans and mortgages, following later.
Last month, Abbey appointed Tim Sawyer as marketing and business
development director for Aquarius.
Sawyer, who is responsible for Euro’s appointment, was formerly head of
payment systems and strategy at Abbey.
