Unilever this week launched an internet cleaning venture, myhome,
before claiming it is a ’toe in the water’ of the home service
If successful, Unilever is expected to launch the venture worldwide.
The company will offer limited services over the internet, branded Jif
Homeclean and Persil Services, for homes in South-West London.
Unilever is keen to develop services experience as it offers better
profit margins than the consumer goods manufacturing business. Myhome
will also be used to boost sales of its core detergent products.
Trevor Gorin, a spokesman for Unilever’s detergents subsidiary, Lever
Brothers, said: ’If it works over time, it will be extended; if not,
that will be the end of it.’
Dave Ball, head of operations, home and personal care research at
Unilever, heads myhome, which was formed after the company bought Mrs
McMopp, a home cleaning service, and Fulham-based laundrette, Palace
Marketing for the project will be limited to local direct mail, through
Big Green Door. The myhome web site is at www.myhome.co.uk.
