Motivforce and Purchasepoint, the marketing services agencies, are to merge next year, following the acquisition of Lopex, Purchasepoint’s parent company, by Havas Advertising. The new agency, as yet unnamed, will have billings of more than pounds 65m. Clients include Vodafone, Ford, Microsoft, BT and Anheuser-Busch. Tomy, the toy manufacturer, is linking up with charity Children in

Crisis for a cause-related marketing initiative called ’The Gift that

Lasts’.



A range of Tomy toys for children up to seven years old are included in

the promotion. For each product bought from the range, Tomy will donate

money to the cause. It hopes to reach a target of pounds 50,000 in

donations.



Children in Crisis funds educational projects worldwide for

children.





Microsoft Hotmail is sponsoring TFI Nightly, the Sunday-Thursday early

evening show on Virgin Radio’s 105.8FM London service, from November

22.



It is the first sponsorship deal between Microsoft and UK radio. The

deal includes on-air credits with the show. TFI Nightly, an extension of

Channel 4’s TFI Friday, is presented by Harriet Scott and broadcast from

6.45pm to 7.30pm.





PR Brands, the UK spirits arm of Pernod Ricard, has moved Axel Herpen

from its German operations to become marketing manager for its key

brands in the UK. He will be responsible for the marketing of the

Pernod, Pernod Hex, Dubonnet and Soho brands.





Virgin Megastores has launched its first TV and cinema ad campaign,

following its appointment of TBWA GGT Simons Palmer earlier this year.

The campaign, which also includes radio, press and teaser fly-posters,

carries the strapline ’Dangerously entertaining’. One execution shows

two Santas fighting over CDs on promotion and another shows turkeys

unable to stop themselves from dancing.





Blackwell’s, the academic and specialist bookstore chain, is seeking a

board-level UK marketing director, with a brief to spearhead a new drive

into internet and mail-order bookselling. The role will include putting

together a new e-commerce strategy for the chain.





Singapore Airlines has launched a national press campaign aimed at

pressuring the British government into allowing it to fly from the US to

the UK.



The campaign highlights the lack of choice available. It was produced by

Left Field.





Travelstore.com, the online travel booking company, and Continental

Airlines have launched an online transatlantic promotion offering

flights from pounds 186. The deal is in association with the Electronic

Telegraph, through which flights are bookable. The address is

www.telegraph.co.uk.





First Drinks Brands is offering consumers their money back in December

if they don’t like the taste of Taboo. Taboo was repackaged and

reformulated in August. The new recipe is being supported by a pounds 1m

programme including radio promotions and sponsorship.





The New Millennium Experience Company is launching a community web site

developed by promotional marketing agency Dynamo’s new media

division.



The key feature will be the searchable database listing UK-wide events

taking place throughout the year 2000.





Internet users in the UK have spent an average of pounds 170 online over

the past 12 months, according to Continental Research’s fifth annual

report.



A total of nearly pounds 2bn was spent between the 11.1 million regular

users.





The National Basketball Association is launching a replica-shirt

promotion with JJB Sports in 180 stores throughout December. The

promotion is designed to capitalise on the boom in the NBA replica

market, following research that shows basketball is the second most

played game by teenagers in Britain.



Each purchase of a replica jersey will include a free CD.





Burmah Castrol has signed a deal with BMW that will see its Castrol Oil

brand become the recommended lubricant for BMW’s cars and

motorcycles.



Apart from its own marque, BMW also owns Rover, Land Rover, Mini and

MG.Castrol is also expected to be announced as a sponsor to the new BMW

Williams Formula 1 team.
