Virginmoney.com, Richard Branson’s new personal finance venture,

which launched this week backed by a pounds 10m campaign, has appointed

two former Virgin Direct marketers to head its marketing team.

Peter Ballard, formerly project manager and e-commerce marketing manager

at Virgin Direct, is Virginmoney.com’s first sales and marketing

director.

Meanwhile, Tony Wood, formerly marketing director at Virgin Direct, has

taken on the more wide-ranging role of director of communications.

Both were part of the original team that launched Virgin Direct in

1995.

Virginmoney. com’s managing director, Paul Pester, was formerly director

of corporate strategy and planning at Pearl Assurance.

A press campaign, developed by Virgin Direct agencies Rainey Kelly

Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and Manning Gottlieb Media, broke this weekend and

will run until the end of July.

The campaign will gain momentum in August when it will be extended to

TV, radio and outdoor.

Virginmoney.com is a joint venture between The Virgin Group and

Australian financial services firm AMP.

Selling ISAs, unit trusts and mortgages from third-parties as well as

from Virgin, it also offers online sharedealing and rolling news.

As the default money channel on Virgin.com, which will be the hub for

all Virgin Group activities, it will be positioned as the ’online

consumer champion for financial services’.

Ballard has already recruited a marketing team comprising eight people,

including former Norwich Union ad manager, Lisa Connelly, and Tom Wood,

formerly of direct marketers MSB&K and briefly at Virgin Direct.

The launch of Virginmoney.com coincides with the launch of

Virginwines.com, and comes within a month of the launch of

Virgincars.com. Virginenergy.com, is set to launch next week.
