The Sportsmasters Network (TSN), the sports marketing company that last week announced plans to revive world snooker, has hired senior Coca-Cola marketer Simon Cunningham as marketing director.
Cunningham, Coke's general manager for global sports events, will oversee the recruitment of sponsors to the sport. Central to the revamp will be the end of sponsorship from tobacco firms, which Cunningham believes has deterred other brands from becoming involved in the sport. Tobacco brands currently contribute about pounds 5m a year to snooker's revenues.
TSN proposes to reintroduce a snooker World Cup and tournaments across Europe and Asia to tap into snooker's global fan base.
The revamp, which is likely to begin next year, will also involve new broadcast camera angles and an overhaul of the players' ranking system.
