ITV's peaktime lead over BBC1 dipped in the week December 11 to 17 to 36.5% from the previous week's high of 38.9%. BBC1 achieved a 28.7% share.
Tony Blair's live ITV interview, which took the place of Emmerdale on Tuesday 12, can take some of the blame. ITV's average performance for Tuesday was 30.2% compared with 33.1% for BBC1, according to figures from ITV.
However, ITV's Sunday night line-up of Coronation Street, Heartbeat and Cold Feet contributed to a 37.7% peaktime share for ITV, compared with 29% for BBC1, despite airing Royal Variety Performance, which averaged 7.7 million viewers.
