Nokia assigns senior marketer Harlow new role

LONDON - Jo Harlow, Nokia’s senior vice president of global marketing, has had her role scrapped as part of an ongoing restructure of the company’s senior management team.

The world’s largest handset manufacturer is overhauling its marketing operations in a move that will see Harlow take up a newly created product management position within the company’s Live division, which spans lifestyle and fashion phones. Harlow recently oversaw a six-month long review of Nokia’s $300m global advertising account, which saw Wieden & Kennedy awarded the company’s strategic creative business and JWT pick up the network distribution brief (Marketing 3rd July 2007). Prior to her global role, Harlow was vice president of marketing for Nokia’s North America operations. She has also held marketing roles at Reebok and Procter and Gamble. Nokia has also axed a number of other top marketing roles as part of a company restructure that has seen Pekka Rantala become overall head of Nokia’s global marketing operations.

The shake-up has already seen Nokia draft in former O2 and Conservative Party marketer Will Harris as its first UK marketing director. Harris joins Nokia next month to oversee brand strategy and product promotion. He takes up the board-level job following the departure of Simon Lloyd, who joined The Number 118 118 earlier this year
