Fast Track, the commercial arm of UK Athletics, is seeking
commercial sponsors for a range of grass roots sports initiatives as
part of a drive to make athletics more popular among young people.
Fast Track is seeking brands to back the National Schools Championships,
which was last sponsored by TSB in a deal that ended in 1997. It also
wants sponsors for the country's major athletics leagues and an umbrella
sponsor for the UK's 1600 athletics clubs. Fast Track hopes to generate
about pounds 1m from the tie-ups.
UK Athletics is also teaming up with government-backed information
helpline learndirect to build awareness of the sport among youth.
As UK Athletics' official helpline, it will offer information about
athletics schemes around the country.
'We hope this will help promote the projects on offer to youngsters as a
part of our five-year strategy,' said Fast Track head of business
development Marc Hope.
