BT Wireless is set to unveil a WAP and web offering aimed at small
businesses, called 'Connected'.
The service is understood to be a joint venture between BT Cellnet and
Genie, BT's mobile information portal aimed at consumers.
Its services will include unified messaging and content. Genie will
provide the venture's technology, while BT Cellnet will sign up content
Connected will be available via BT Cellnet WAP-enabled handsets, as well
as via the web. It will be led by Jenny Campbell, who previously worked
on BT's WorldView.
BT is gearing up for an aggressive ad campaign to support the venture's
launch, which is expected next week.
The launch comes as BT Wireless, the division that houses BT Cellnet and
Genie, is expected to be sold off in the autumn as part of BT's drive to
chip away at its debts.
