Barclays names media shortlist for pounds 22m review

Barclays has confirmed the shortlist for its postponed review of

media agencies, reportedly worth pounds 22m.



MediaVest, the incumbent agency, will pitch alongside Publicis-owned

Optimedia and Omnicom's OMD UK and a result is expected at the end of

July. All agencies are on the Barclays group roster, with Optimedia

working on the Woolwich account and OMD handling the media for

Barclaycard.



MediaVest has handled media buying and planning for Barclays since

1996.



The account will cover TV, print, press and some digital and online

ads.



Despite speculation that the account would also include Barclays group

businesses Barclaycard and Woolwich, the media pitch is limited to

planning and buying for Barclays Bank.



The original pitch was called off in October 2000 as there was

insufficient time for planning for the coming year.



The review, being handled by the AAR, is part of a wider rejig of

advertising and marketing in the Barclays group. Leagas Delaney won the

Barclays above-the-line business in 1999 from J Walter Thompson.
