Tesco has denied that it sells Esso petrol at its own-brand filling
stations, after Greenpeace challenged the supermarket over its
partnership with the oil giant that supported US withdrawal from the
Greenpeace executive director Stephen Tindale is seeking a meeting with
Tesco's technical and trading director, John Longworth, to establish the
exact nature of the supermarket's relationship with Esso.
The meeting follows correspondence between Tindale and Longworth over
the relationship between Tesco and Esso.
Tindale said: "There are apparent inconsistencies and it will be easier
to get to the bottom of them by talking face to face."
A Tesco spokeswoman said that Tesco forecourts are supplied by three
major oil companies and four independent ones, but Esso is not among
Greenpeace is part of the StopEsso coalition, which is planning a
StopEsso Day on December 1.
