Fox's chief to lead Northern Foods

Fox's Biscuits marketing director Clare Field has been promoted to

group marketing executive across all Northern Foods businesses, ending a

six-month search to fill the vacancy.

Reporting to group executive David Baines, Field, 34, will oversee

marketing for the 18 operating companies that make up the Northern Foods

portfolio.

These house brands such as Eden Vale chilled foods, Ski yoghurt, Munch

Bunch fromage frais, Goodfella's Pizzas, Dalepak frozen burgers, Payne's

Poppets, Just Brazils and Pork Farms pork pies.

Field will manage a budget of around £10m and will have overall

responsibility for Northern Foods' agency roster, which comprises

Partners BDDH, St Luke's and PHD.

Field's appointment is part of a wider restructure that sees former

Northern Foods top marketer, Bill McKeever, promoted to managing

director of Fox's Confectionery.

It comes just weeks before former Nestle boss Peter Blackburn joins the

company as chairman, replacing Lord (Chris) Haskins after 40 years at

Northern Foods. When Blackburn comes on board next year, he will lead a

largely reshaped but experienced senior team. This includes Peter Mayes

who joins as marketing director of Fox's Confectionery following

Northern Foods' acquisition of Payne's Confectionery in July.

Northern Foods had sales of £698m in the six months to September,

up 6.2%, but pre-tax profits fell 8.6% to £38.4m.
