Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) marketing director Chris
Gardner has landed the top marketing job for the new charity to be
created by the merger of the ICRF and the Cancer Research Campaign.
Details of the merger are yet to be finalised but, if it goes ahead as
expected, it will create the UK's biggest charity, with annual income of
at least £220m. The name of the new entity is still to be

She has been at the CRC since 1999. She was previously assistant
director of marketing at Scope.
Gardner became head of marketing at the ICRF in 1997. He joined from
Oxfam, where he was donor management manager responsible for DRTV, donor
recruitment and fundraising.
The two charities, currently the UK's third- and fourth-biggest in
income terms, have been competing for funds for 70 years. They said
increased collaboration would speed up research.
